new product: On the Ground — a picutre font and animation

Fascination Workshop is excited to announce the release of our first picture font: On the Ground.

On the Ground features drawings of objects that the artist and designer Jason Warriner has found on the ground over several years. The picture font comes in both OpenType and TrueType formats and will work on Mac and Windows computers. It is available in both download and physical forms. Included on the DVD is an animation and other extras (you can see here) along with a 44 page booklet and hand letterpress printed packaging. Both download and physical forms include the soundtrack to the animation composed by 1 and the 2.

We recently completed a new prototype that uses the letter “V” from an old sign as a cat scratching pad.

new prototype: SID Synth

Fascination Workshop has just completed our design for the SID Synth, an 8 bit synth made from a Commodore 64 sound chip (SID). The electronics were created by the fine folks at Ucapps.de.

We have also added some older prototypes—our case design for the Fyrall. The electronics were designed by the strange forces at Ciat Lonbarde

Midi Controller

We recently completed a prototype for a midi controller that we have been refining since 2001. This module allows the user to control samples with midi. The “wine cork” like objects sticking up are knobs that can be assigned to any midi parameter that is controllable (volume, effects mix, etc.). A slide-out drawer allows the user to modify the parameters of the device. On the right hand side is a magnet mounted laser controlled module allows the user to trigger up to four samples by interrupting a laser beam.

We will be adding sound samples as soon as our artists in residence have time to make a few recordings.

Wood: Ash and Zebra vaneer over poplar and birch frame.
Hardware: Edrum and the MidiTron
